Today was a fun day at the State Veterans Home on Long Island. Here we are distributing headphones, razors, clothing and the vets favorite “old spice body wash” at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook with Lonnie Sherman of “General Needs”, his wife Susan, and Kathy and Roy from Ronkonkoma Rotary. Lonnie and his wife are awesome people who volunteer all of their time to helping veterans. Lonnie is a Rotarian from Ronkonkoma and he founded General Needs. They have been helping local veterans for over 14 years. 

 

General Needs is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that helps veterans. They provide essential needs items such as socks, underwear, and t-shirts. General Needs helps thousands of homeless veterans and their families in and around Long Island through your charitable donations and support. Their Mission focuses on providing the basic necessities that are missing in the everyday lives of our homeless veterans.
Many of the veterans that are cared for at the veterans home are financially secure, but some of them are not. These are often disabled veterans who lack the comfort items of life in a veterans home. As a Rotarian and as a veteran I am trying to do my share to bring a few comforts from home to these veterans who gave so much so I can live free.  https://generalneeds.org/
